A Letter to my Son

This is a super delayed post, but I still would love to share it with you guys  :)

To our smart, sweet, and loving son Shaun,

You’ve already finished the first part of kindergarten. And it was an amazing experience to both of us! J I may not be able to remember the details of your preschool years when you grow up. That’s why I’m telling you here what a wonderful year it has been.

As first time parents, your daddy and I were very excited to let you out of the house and  have fun at school when you were  at 2 ½ years old, so we requested your grandma’s friend  to let you (and your cousin Leocas) join a nursery class and give it a try.
But here’s what happened. You got so excited and couldn’t just sit on your chair. You already knew some of the lessons, like the different colors and shapes. So you went in front dancing, got the stick from the teacher and imitate her, as if you were the assistant! (Lol!) That was the day when you got your very first “good job star.” Which you were so happy and proud of, but we decided not to let you continue, for we saw that you're still too young to attend a formal class.

After a year, we finally got you enrolled. You were very excited on your first day; it was all about fun and play for you.

And then, one day when we went to pick you up.  We noticed that all your classmates have already been sent home, and you were the last student left in the room, together with your adviser and a teacher aide, for more than 30 minutes. We were just waiting outside the school, wondering why you haven’t been dismissed.

Only to find out that you were still trying to finish coloring a figure, slooooowly but accurately! And your teacher said you’ve told A LOT of stories while doing the task. Well, you just forced them to extend their work hours (haha!).

The first time that you were given homework, your dad and I “almost” gave up on you (sorry!). Nobody told us that it was THAT difficult to teach a toddler how to write. But! With just a few fights and tears, from time to time (hehe!) You’ve learned how to do it. However, you still complain sometimes, that you have too many letters in your name, that’s why you’re unable to write it onto a single line.
Nevertheless, you eventually liked writing, that even when you were very tired, you were still determined to finish tracing a letter. Until you end up falling asleep, leaving a drool on your homework.

I’m also glad that you get to enjoy different school activities, like dancing and playing with your classmates. It was a great way to develop your confidence, be friendly and cheerful to people.

Although one day, out of nowhere, you told us that you already have a “girlfriend” named Bella (the girl in purple blouse). Really? at the age of four?! I’m sure you meant girl-friend, but most of your stories are all about her. So we knew that she’s somehow special to you. Oh puhhleeease! Not too soon sweetheart!

Just last March, we attended your moving up ceremony. We knew that you’re doing well in school, but we receive no letter or memo, whatsoever about who was leading. Until that day, when the directress announced “A Gold Medal is given to the student who has achieved the most outstanding academic record for the whole Nursery Level. This will be awarded to Shaun Matthew Oribello

OMG! Goosebumps! I was carrying your little sister so it was your dad who went up with you on stage to award the medal. I was shaking that time and was about to cry! But I saw your grandma already in tears, so I just made myself busy taking your picture with them. It was a truly emotional moment! What a big wonderful surprise my dear.

We thank God for the good health and wisdom He has given you. No matter if you have a medal or not, you have always made us proud. And of course we’re forever here to love and support you. Keep it up son!

Love, Mommy
